  1. PHocus: Public Health Outbreaks, Community, & Urban Studies Rutgers School of Public Health will be hosting a public health experience for incoming high school 9th-12th graders this summer. PHocus is an interdisciplinary educational program that enables students to explore population health and learn the fundamentals of epidemiology, the basic science of public health. Students will participate in a variety of activities to learn about population health and community disease and have conversations with public health scientists and practitioners.  The Summer 2021 PHocus Summer Experience will be held virtually via Zoom from July 12-16, 2021, 10:00am-1:00pm each day.  Applications are open now!  If you would like more information or to apply to this experience visit http://sph.rutgers.edu/training/phocus.html or email the camp at summercamp@sph.rutgers.edu
  2. BOLD - July  2021: Applications are being accepted until March 31 at www.cinj.org/bold High school-aged students are invited to apply for the BOLD Camp (BioCONECT Oncology Leadership Development) - a unique summer learning opportunity for students who have an interest in learning about cellular biology and genetics of cancer, as well as the diverse careers connected to the field.

The BOLD 2021 virtual Program Outline is as follows:

·         Tuesday, July 20, 10am-12:00pm (for small group activities)

·         Wednesday, July 21, 10am-12:30pm

·         Monday, July 26, 10am-12:30pm

  1. The Rutgers Youth Enjoy Science (RUYES) program invites science teachers from high schools with significant proportions of students from underrepresented backgrounds (URG) and students from URG to engage in mentored cancer research and professional development.
    • Teachers will have the opportunity to:
  • Engage in basic, clinical, or population-based cancer research for eight weeks during two consecutive summers.
  • Receive curriculum development support to design innovative curricula they can take back to their classrooms.
  • Present their research findings at an Ann
    • Students will have the opportunity to:
  • Receive hands-on training in cutting-edge cancer research.
  • Conduct research in mentor-supervised laboratories for 10 weeks per summer for two consecutive years.
  • Prepare a poster and a 10-minute talk based on their research experience for presentation at the Annual Research Day.
  • Participate in educational seminars addressing key concepts in cancer and exploring the research literature.
  • Receive compensation for their time and other possible expenses.
