The Columbia University Science Honors Program (2023-2024)

I am writing to inform you about Columbia University's Science Honors
Program (SHP) and its application process for the 2023-2024 academic
year. This program, now in its sixty-fifth year, offers enrichment
courses in science and mathematics on Saturday mornings throughout the
school year to 700 students who have been selected from approximately
750 high schools in the metropolitan New York area. The program returned
to in-person operation this past year, as the Covid-19 pandemic receded.

Further information about the program is available at:
http://www.columbia.edu/cu/shp/

Applicants to the SHP must now be in the 11th, 10th, or 9th grade and
should have a strong interest and exceptional ability in science and
mathematics. I would very much appreciate your informing appropriate
students, and science and mathematics teachers in your school about the
program. Next year's SHP will have openings for approximately 400 new
students.

The program uses an online application process which students can access
on the Columbia University SHP web page:
http://www.columbia.edu/cu/shp/apply.html
Please note that the program is using a new online application platform,
Slate.

Each applicant will be asked to do the following:
(1) Submit an online application, with an associated $50 application fee
(waivers are available in case of financial hardship).
(2) Submit an electronic copy of their official transcript directly to
the SHP.
(3) Request that a teacher, guidance counselor, or principal submit an
online recommendation letter.
(4) Take a two-hour online entrance examination to be administered on
various weekend dates TBD during the second half of June.

The deadline for the SHP receipt of student online applications is May
31, 2023.

Official transcripts and online letters of recommendation must be
received by the SHP no later than June 15, 2023. Admission decisions
will be announced in August, 2023.
