Service Academy Information Night May 31

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy
Alumni Association and Foundation

Dear Colleague,

I would like to share some important information concerning congressional nominations to service academies. Four of the five academies - U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), U.S. Military Academy (USMA), U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) - require applicants to apply for and receive a congressional nomination from either a U.S. Representative or a U.S. Senator. In addition to their two U.S. senators, applicants to USMMA may apply to any and all members of congress in their state. This affords USMMA applicants more opportunities to secure these coveted appointments.

Congressman Tom Kean, Jr., representing the 7th Congressional District of New Jersey, is hosting a Service Academy Information Night on May 31st to learn about the application and nomination process. Representatives from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and the other academies will be there to answer questions. I have attached a flyer with details that you can share with your students.

High school and middle school students interested in attending a service academy are encouraged to attend. Congressional staff will be present to explain the nomination process. Family members, counselors and educators are welcome. The details are as follows:
