Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Michigan is excited to be offering a virtual course that high school students can participate in this summer, The Joy Of Coding, which takes place July 5, 2021-August 13, 2021.

 

The Joy of Coding is an online course specially created for anyone who wants to experience first-hand the power and thrill of coding computers to do amazing things. Created with high school students in mind, it is a great way for anyone to step into the wondrous world of coding. You’ll learn by doing and experience how coding powers apps such as Snapchat and TikTok. 

No prior coding experience is required! Anyone who wants to learn is welcome!

Students will: 

• Learn to code at their own pace with support from Michigan ECE faculty and students 

• Have weekly coding lectures/assignments using an interactive textbook

• Have our commitment to help you get unstuck when learning to code

• Receive a certificate of accomplishment to include in college applications

This summer, your students can explore different interests, make new friends, and prepare for the next level of education. Some of our programs are credit-bearing, which can allow your high school students to get a head start on their college requirements. The Virtual Info Fair will be available on two dates for your students to learn more about the programs offered. Registration is required and attendance to only one of the fair sessions is needed. Pratt’s summer 2021 PreCollege Intensive Program provides students with an opportunity to build their art and design skills, create a portfolio of their work, and explore possibilities for study and employment in creative fields. Classes are modeled after Pratt’s undergraduate curriculum, taught by experienced faculty and alumni in order to provide students with a rich and immersive educational experience. The application-only program equips students with elective college credits accepted at Pratt and most other colleges and universities.

  Current 7th - 11th grade students to participate in the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Institute's 2021 Online Summer Program! 

2021 Online Summer Program 

Founded in the summer of 1988, the W.E.B. DuBois Scholars Institute provides scholarship and leadership training for high-achieving youth. In light of COVID-19, the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Institute's Online Summer Program will occur instead of the traditional Summer Institute at Princeton University. 

During the 2021 Online Summer Program, students will experience an academic and leadership development program by receiving rigorous instruction in college level courses. The Du Bois Institute aims to sharpen students’ research and quantitative analysis skills, as well as writing, verbal, and critical reading skills.

Program Overview:

The online program is for current 7th-11th graders (rising 8th - rising 12th graders). 

Students can choose from 17 different online courses (based on their grade):

Course Dates:

Each course occurs over 7 days (excluding weekends) for 90 minutes daily.

Session 1: June 28th - July 6th (5 courses available)

Session 2: July 7th - July 15th (6 courses available) 

Session 3: July 16th - July 26th (6 courses available)

+ Each course can be applied for individually.

+ Students can apply for more than one course. Finalists will be assigned to a course before additional courses are granted.
