About Educational Arts Team’s Camp Liberty
Each summer for over 40 years, EdArts’ Camp Liberty’s tranquil five acres have offered children a green sanctuary within an urban environment. Camp Liberty offers young people an outlet for artistic expression, a safe space to have social interactions and structured activities for recreation. The goal of Camp Liberty is to create a welcoming environment using EdArts techniques grounded in the arts and social emotional learning, to make positive and memorable experiences and in turn nurture personal growth. Camp Liberty seeks high energy and engaged individuals to join our seasonal team to provide a safe environment for 200+ campers daily.
Our outdoor summer day camp is located in Liberty State Park, and includes an in-ground swimming pool, softball field, multi-purpose field, handball courts, playground, restrooms, changing areas, covered pavilion and stage. Campers can choose from an array of activities such as theater, arts & crafts, recreation, dance, music, swimming and more.
Camp Liberty is part of Educational Arts Team, a leader in arts education which, for decades, has offered effective social and emotional-based programs in schools and communities in Northern New Jersey.
Session Dates
Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4pm
Session 1: June 27- July 8 (Closed July 4)
Session 2: July 11- July 22
Session 3: July 25- August 5
Session 4: August 8- August 19
Junior Counselor (16 and 17 years old)
Responsibilities include:
A Junior Counselor's main function is to assist Counselors in activities and workshops. Work includes setup and cleanup of an activity.
At the discretion of the Camp Directors, Junior Counselors are assigned to those activities best suited to their talents, interests and age appropriateness.
Schedules are discussed and distributed during the pre-camp training.
Counselors are expected to adhere to the guidelines as stated in the Camp Liberty Staff Training Guide.
A Counselor must demonstrate an exemplary model of conduct suitable and appropriate towards all children, families and coworkers.
Junior Counselors report to and meet regularly with the Camp Program Director and camp supervisors for ongoing program evaluation and addressing special needs that might arise.
Counselor (18 years and older)
Responsibilities include:
A Counselor’s main function is to facilitate all pre-scheduled activities with their assigned campers.
A Counselor must demonstrate an exemplary model of conduct suitable and appropriate towards all children, families and coworkers.
At the discretion of the Camp Directors, Counselors are assigned to those activities best suited to their talents. Schedules are discussed and distributed during the pre-camp training.
Attending basic training.
Counselors are expected to adhere to the guidelines stated in the Camp Liberty Staff Training Guide.
Selected Counselors will also be assigned as Bus Chaperones for the transportation of children to and from the campsite.
All Counselors report to and meet regularly with the Camp Program Director and designated supervisors for program evaluation and special needs.
Specialist (18 years and older)
Responsibilities include:
In addition to all requirements of a Counselor (see above), the Specialists focus on conducting a more specialized series of workshops or other related activity designed for the program and its campers.
Specialists coordinate and consult with Senior Counselors in the area of workshop development.
Specialists are also involved with special events throughout the summer (i.e. camp story-plays, musical/dance presentations, art exhibitions, etc.).
Specialists report to and meet systematically with the Camp Program Director and designated supervisors for program evaluation and special needs.
Junior Lifeguard (16 and 17 years old)
Responsibilities and certification requirements include:
Must have all necessary NJ lifeguard certifications.
Monitors pool to make sure that children are safe and behaving according to the rules and reports to the Pool Director.
Responds in emergency situations and provides rescue and first aid assistance up to his or her training level until medical personnel arrive.
Inspects the aquatic facility for unsafe conditions and cleanliness to prevent accidents and reports any hazards to the supervisor.
Enforces pool rules consistently and fairly.
Assists Lifeguards in pool maintenance and pool testing.
Assists counseling staff with campers in between swimming periods in the changing areas.
