Greetings Esteemed Faculty,

I hope this email finds you well. My name is Laura Uzzell, program manager of the Accelerated Learning Academy for 8th & 9th Graders (ALA)The ALA is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based program launched by the W.E.B. Du Bois Scholars Institute at Princeton University and we are now accepting applications! This year in light of COVID-19, the program will be online, yet will still maintain forms of interactivity, STEM activities, discussions and student engagement! We strongly encourage your best and brightest 8th and 9th graders who have demonstrated an interest in STEM to apply for the online program.

Program Overview: 

The Accelerated Learning Academy (ALA) is a STEM program for 8th and 9th graders. Students take interactive workshops in 1 of 3 tracks:

 

Biomedical Engineering & Technology

Medical Science

Applied Mathematics

 

This year, in light of COVID-19, the ALA Program will occur online, via a web conferencing platform. 

 

Criteria & Eligibility

Overall GPA of 3.0, B, or 75 out of 100 

B Average in STEM coursework

2 Letters of Recommendation

Transcript

Essay 

Virtual Interview 

 

Application & Supplementary Materials Deadline: February 9, 2022.

 

Program Duration

The program will occur online during three weekends throughout the school year.

 

Dates:

March 11-13, 2022

April 8- 10 2022

May 13-15, 2022 

 

Times:

Fridays: 6 PM - 9 PM EST

Saturdays: 9 AM - 3 PM EST

Sundays: 10 AM - 1 PM EST


Program Cost

The program cost, which covers tuition, is $500. 

If applicable, families will receive a materials list for personal purchasing of workshop materials (aiming not to exceed $25 per weekend). Upon submission of receipts, the Institute will reimburse families according to our materials policy.
