Virtual SLI E-Learning Best Practices

  • Create or find a quiet space. This will allow you to focus during the presentations and engage fully with your group during discussions. Make sure your household knows your schedule so you will not be disrupted during your sessions.
  • Be conscious of your technology. Keep your camera and microphone muted during presentations. This will help reduce distractions and echoes or mic feedback. During discussions you may use your video and microphone but remember to respect your fellow participants.
  • Think before you speak. Although you may not see everyone’s face the entire time, keep in mind that you should show the same respect and attention.
  • Don’t be shy. You get out what you put in! Your voice and thoughts are important so make sure you use them during the discussions.

“I really enjoyed taking the Health & Medicine Summer Academy course. Despite everything being online and not being able to meet everyone in person and be more hands-on, I feel like everyone tried their best to make the online experience worth it. We still had guest speakers, demonstrations, and tours of the labs. I learned so much not only about how COVID-19 affects the body at the cellular level, but also about the many different medical career options. Taking this class helped me to sort out what path I think I want to take in the medical field as well as it made me very excited for my future!”

  Catholic University's School of Architecture

is offering an ONLINE, immersive and fun summer architecture program for high school students and incoming college students

For more information, please refer to attached EiA 2021 Info and Flyer or our website, https://architecture.catholic.edu/academics/pre-college/index.html  Please also feel free to contact me directly if you or your students have any questions.
_________

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Experiences in Architecture (EiA) program at the Catholic University of America (CUA) is an intense, two-week, pre-college workshop for students interested in architecture or other design-related fields. Students are exposed to both the academic and professional sides of the architectural arena, as the city of Washington, D.C. becomes their virtual classroom.

EiA will better prepare students for the rigors of architecture school, giving them a head start, as well as acquainting them with campus life at the university level. Students who have participated in EiA’s summer workshop, or a similar pre-college program, are better prepared for success at the university level.

This year EiA will continue with its online experience! We have phenomenal instructors that are experienced in creating a successful online studio environment with small groups and individualized focus. As students in the program, you will still have access to all of our best lecturers and get to experience virtual tours of museums, firms and the CUA campus. Students will receive their own set of tools and we look forward to working through this tool kit to ensure students gain the foundational knowledge they need for drawing, sketching and model making.

Students will leave this workshop with an array of technical skills, a higher level of confidence in giving presentations, a greater understanding of how the design profession works and connections with professors and practitioners. This is truly an one-of-a-kind experience that we would love to share with you.
