Announcing Summer Academy 2019!

Welcome!

I am thrilled to announce that applications for  Summer Academy 2019  are now open.

Not only do we have an exciting lineup of courses for next year, we are also launching a brand-new Summer Academy experience in Washington DC. The choice for our second campus was easy: there’s no better place to explore the role of media in a democratic society than in our nation’s capital, and our new DC program offers a special focus on political reporting, public policy and social activism. As always, our flagship New York City program invites students with a broad range of interests—from business to music, fashion, tech and more—to study at the epicenter of culture and commerce.

Through both programs, we use the city as our classroom and invite students to immerse themselves in the iconic neighborhoods, people and culture of NYC and DC. Additionally, we are pleased to announce the return of some of our most popular courses and introduce new offerings.

NYC Course Highlights

Our signature program, Writing the Big City, returns along with other writing-focused courses, including  Opinion Writing,  Creative Writing and Writing for Television: Inside the Writers’ Room. 
We’ve expanded our photography courses to include additional sections of our foundational course Photojournalism as Art, as well as created other important and innovative journalism skill-building courses such as New Media: Podcasting & VR and Sports Storytelling.
Highly sought-after arts and culture courses such as  Pop Music as Art and Business and  The Future of Fashion  are back.
Do you like Harry Potter? We’ve added Theater in New York: Harry Potter & the Cursed Child from Page to Stage to investigate the amazing production and culture around this worldwide phenomenon.
Explore the rise of the international gaming industry in our new Pop Culture: Gaming and The Evolution of eSports courses.

DC Course Highlights

DC will share some foundational courses with our NYC campus and these are designed to explore the District’s unique culture. Writing the Big City: Washington Bureau will focus on local reporting, and our popular Opinion Writing course has been contextualized for DC as Opinion Writing: Political Commentary.
There are also new courses that take advantage of topics unique to our nation’s capital, such as Inside the Hill: Government/Law/Ethics, Explorations: Politics/Punditry/People and Museums to Monuments: Culture in the Capital.
Sports continues to be a fan favorite subject during Summer Academy. We’re introducing a new course specially designed for our DC campus called Sports & Politics, which will focus on the biggest challenges currently facing the American sports industry.
