High School Students Can Earn College Credit with Top UM Faculty This Summer
How many students get the chance to produce their own film, learn how to code in python, tour major media hubs in Miami, all while earning six college credits? 
The University of Miami’s Summer Scholars program gives high school sophomores and juniors the opportunity to explore their passion and consider their career opportunities while experiencing college in an authentic environment.
 This year's program runs from July 6 through July 26, 2019
Students must apply by March 1 for scholarship consideration!

To be considered, eligible applicants must complete both the Summer Scholars application and the scholarship application and submit supporting documents by the March 1 deadline. Caldwell University's Partnership with Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP)

Research & Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP) is a summer STEM program that places talented high school students, from groups historically underserved in STEM, in research apprenticeships at area colleges and universities. REAP apprentices work under the direct supervision of a mentor on a hands-on research project. REAP apprentices are exposed to the real world of research, they gain valuable mentorship, and they learn about education and career opportunities in STEM. REAP apprenticeships are 5-8 weeks in length (minimum of 200 hours) and apprentices receive a stipend.


You'll Get To...

  • receive a $1,500 stipend for minimum of 200 hours
  • work personally with a scientist or engineer doing real life research
  • have the opportunity to do research at a university or college – an environment not available in local high schools
  • gain self confidence in their abilities and exposure to STEM careers
  • have opportunity to present your research to your peers

Eligibility

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident
High school students must meet 2 of the following requirements:
  • Rural, frontier, or other targeted outreach schools
  • Student is female in certain STEM fields, e.g., physical science, computer science, mathematics, or engineering)
  • Student is a minority historically under-represented in STEM (Alaskan Native, Native American, Black or African American, Hispanic, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander)
  • Student qualifies for free or reduced lunch
  • English as a Second Language for the student
  • Student is first-generation college student

More Information

This program is for commuting students only. Students are required to travel to and from the program site daily. In addition, the program does not supply an allowance for housing, meals or travel reimbursement.

The Summer Scholars weeklong academic enrichment program for rising high school juniors and seniors offers opportunities to study under the direction of Furman faculty members. Summer Scholars’ challenging academic experience will include lectures, class discussion, debates, service learning, field trips, group and individual projects, and other activities.

Program Costs

Tuition for the one-week program is $1,200. Tuition for both weeks is $2,200—a $200 discount. Tuition includes room and board, meals, field trips, social activities, and optional linens. Scholarships and financial assistance are not available for this program.

With direct flights by major airlines, Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is located just 35 minutes from the Furman campus. Southwest Airlines is a major hub, offering daily non-stop flights to Baltimore, Chicago and Houston. Complimentary ground transportation to and from the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport is available for Summer Scholars participants.

The Gabelli School of Business offers exciting summer programs for high school students, visiting students from other universities, and Fordham University students:

NYC Business Insider

Ideal for rising high school juniors and seniors

A one-week program designed to immerse rising high school juniors and seniors in the commercial center of New York City. Participating students will benefit from morning class sessions with top faculty from Fordham’s Gabelli School of Business, lunch discussions with our undergrads and administrators, followed by afternoon site visits to prominent New York City businesses.  Last year’s program included a trip to PVH (home of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger), a trip to the Madison Square Garden, and a visit to KPMG.
The dates for the NYC Business Insider Program are June 24 to 28.

Exploring Entrepreneurship

An overview of the entrepreneurial process, ideal for rising high school juniors and seniors.

The Exploring Entrepreneurship program will allow high school students to explore entrepreneurship in New York City.  Hosted by the Fordham Foundry, Fordham's hub for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the program will provide a comprehensive overview of the entrepreneurial process and introduce students to crucial concepts in the world of startups.  Student participants will work in teams to develop a new business idea and pitch it to a panel of university professors; they will also visit a NYC-based startup incubator.
The dates for Exploring Entrepreneurship are July 15 to 19.

Finance Institute: Wall Street in the Classroom

The Gabelli School of Business is once again pleased to offer the Finance Institute program geared toward high school students curious about the possibility of studying finance in their future.

The Finance Institute is geared towards students who envision the possibility of finance in their future, or who simply want to learn more about how to manage their own finances. Student participants will learn about financial markets, stocks and bonds, alternative investments, risk management, ethics, and industry trends; they will also have the opportunity to visit a finance firm in NYC.
