Our summer program for high school students (ages 15 to 18) is modeled after St. John’s discussion-based, interdisciplinary method of teaching the great books. A hands-on introduction to college life, our program helps students hone their reading, critical thinking, and discussion skills. As a writer of nine books of poems and prose, I have always sought other writers out to share work and to improve my craft. Community is essential to my experience of being a writer. I founded the YWW in 2010 because I believed that high school writers also craved a space to read, write, and share their work—with established writers and peers. Mentorship and community provide the kindling for the writer’s fiery desire to write great stories and poems. The alums of the YWW have proved me right! For more information about my work, check out this site.
