University of Virginia

University of Virginia

The Cornerstone Summer Institute is now accepting applications for the upcoming session and we would appreciate you sharing information about this special experience with any students you feel might be interested. We’ve also included a link to a pdf that could be displayed with other summer opportunities you all share with your students. Thank you in advance for your assistance and feel free to contact us with any questions.

The Cornerstone Summer Institute is a week-long summer camp at the University of Virginia where high school students learn about slavery and its legacies by exploring the University, Charlottesville, and area landmarks. The camp provides rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with the opportunity to engage in historical investigation, archaeological excavation, and community engagement in order to learn and develop thinking skills that will prepare them for success in college and beyond. Applications are being accepted on a rolling basis until April 22, 2019. Some financial aid is available for students with demonstrated need. To find the application and learn more, click here.
