Studio Practice for Rising Seniors - Cooper Union

Develop critical thinking and a unique voice in your portfolio!

This class is designed for rising high school seniors (between junior and senior years) with art making experience who are interested in eventually attending college and focusing on the arts. Students in this section of the Summer Art Intensive will be given personal workspace among their peers with lockable storage in the sky lit communal painting studios. The program will guide students through a process of self-realization, beginning with research and exercises to inspire personal growth as an artist. Finding meaningful subjects motivates productiveness and nurtures your passion.

A set of materials is provided for students but depending on the direction projects take, there may be the need for students to acquire more materials on their own. Students interested in working in digital media may want to bring a laptop. In this class students will/can work with a variety of art mediums.

Badger Precollege scholarship applications due April 17

Badger Precollege offers high school students the opportunity to learn more about college life and academics, gain valuable experience in independence, and pursue new and growing passions. It is an opportunity to invest in their future, inside and outside the classroom.

Our team is dedicated to providing this opportunity to as many students as possible. We do our best to provide as many need-based scholarships to students as we can. In practice, about 25% of our students receive a full or partial need-based scholarship each year.

The deadline for Badger Precollege scholarship applications is April 17 for all programs! A complete scholarship application includes both a completed program application and the scholarship forms.

We also encourage students to check with school officials to see if local monies are available to help cover program costs. If you know of scholarship or financial aid opportunities, we encourage you to work with your students to share additional resources for their success. Thank you!

Top 5 Reasons to Attend a Pre-College Summer Program

Happy Spring!

We are just a few months away from the start of summer programs at WPI! This year, we are offering three distinct programs.

  • Launch (June 26 - 30)
    • A commuter program for rising 9, 10 & 11th graders.
  • Frontiers (July 9 - 21 & July 23 - Aug 4)
    • A set of two two-week residential programs for rising 10, 11 & 12th graders.
  • Jumpstart (July 10 - Aug 11)
    • A five week, virtual for-credit program for rising juniors and seniors.
Below are five reasons why we would love for you to participate!

1) Explore Your Future

Now is the time to check out different career paths by taking a variety of courses to expand your knowledge and fine-tune future aspirations. Plus, you'll find out what classes you love and which ones you can do without.

2) Experience College Life

There's more to college than taking classes. Experience what life is like as an undergraduate by living in a residence hall, eating in the dining hall, and taking part in social and/or educational evening activities.

3) Make Lifelong Friendships

Find people with similar passions who will support you and help you grow as you begin the transition to college. Broaden your horizons by meeting students from all over the globe.

4) Learn by Doing

Apply your knowledge to hands-on projects run by WPI faculty, such as robot builds or biomedical engineering experiments. Participate in labs where world-changing research happens.

5) Build Independence

Enjoy many of the same freedoms as a college student. Roam campus, enjoy the dining hall buffet, and develop a positive routine. Away from home, you make your own decisions that you alone are responsible for.

And what opportunities for liberation may be unlocked?

Join us for a 3-part online workshop where we will explore the intersections of technology, race, and power, and delve into issues such as biased algorithms and the use of personal data for profit.

In this workshop series, created for the MITES community, we will craft ways to utilize the power of technology for justice.
